Fashion Talk: Marc Jacobs

Author: admin  //  Category: Designers, Fashion Talk

I love frogs. This sort of fairy-tale frog that became a prince, and the chameleon who changes colors with his environment. Zelig is my favorite film. I understand that.

I can hang out in a sports bar with a bunch of straight guys and say ‘Go, Knicks’ and I can run around in the art scene and I can also be at the Met ball and be Mr. Fashion Designer with Anna Wintour. I can go wherever I want; I can be whatever I choose. “I can change colors–for my own amusement and, perhaps, the entertainment of others.

Karl Lagerfeld’s alter ego is a teddy bear

Author: admin  //  Category: Designers, Fashion News

Steiff, the famous German maker of stuffed animals, is producing a limited-edition Karl bear.

A teddy bear in impenetrable black sunglasses and a high shirt collar with skinny lacquered jeans looks like the real Lagerfeld. Each boasts a signature Steiff gold button in the ear and five pivoting joints.

If you are a big fan of the Kaiser, you can buy his alter ego at Neiman Marcus in September, for $1,500.

“Bears are very nice, as long as you are nice to them,” said Lagerfeld.

Please, be nice to Karl.

Barack Obama is getting his own Fashion Line

Author: admin  //  Category: Designers, Fashion News

Diane Von Furstenberg, Isaac Mizrahi, Derek Lam, Vera Wang, Tracy Reese, and Charles Nolan – What do all these names have in common? You probably think, these are the designers who are going to do a collaboration for Target?

But no, surprise, they will all design for Barack Obama’s upcoming fashion line!

The renown designers all had less than a week to commit to the project, present a sketch to the campaign for approval, and then deliver a sample. The designers were free to use the candidate’s image and his red-white-and-blue rising sun logo, reports the Washington Post.

T-shirts to tote bags will all be on sale at Obama.com starting next month. We assume that the whole line will be sold out, so don’t miss your chance to sport up some fashionable ‘Barack’ tees.

Rei Kawakubo’s fearless, avant-garde fashions will be available in affordable prices,  thanks to her collaboration with mass retailer H&M.

The result is astonishing. Tailored and deconstructed jackets, cropped pants, baggy shorts and a variety of skirts in stretch wool, polka dot knits in jersey, and colorful shirts – all are signature Comme des Garcons styles.

Perhaps this line is not very commercial and may not sell as well as Stella McCartney or Roberto Cavalli did in their collaboration with H&M, but these clothes will make a true statement.

Karl Lagerfeld loves rap, Cavalli is Gone With the Wind

Author: admin  //  Category: Designers

The September Issue of Harper’s Bazaar asked top designers to dress themselves up in fantasy outfits. Donna Karan, Donatella Versace, Karl Lagerfeld, Alessandra Facchinetti, Rodarte’s Laura and Kate Mulleavy, Roberto Cavalli, Michael Kors, Giorgio Armani, and Alber Elbaz all got into character.

Cavalli dressed like Rhett Butler, Karan embodied a hurricane, Facchinetti went  as Pierrot, Armani played the role of Fred Astaire,  and surprisingly, Lagerfeld suited up as a rapper, striking a pose with Phat Farm jeans. “Believe it or not, I love rap,” he told the mag.

Stella McCartney’s bra paired with fur causes a stir

Author: admin  //  Category: Designers

Hockley, the British boutique that stocks the world’s best fur designers, revealed its ad of a model wearing Stella McCartney’s underwear with a luxury fur coat.

The Daily Mail reports that Stella McCartney ‘went absolutely ballistic when she saw it.’ and furiously demanded Hockley to drop this advert. The 36-year-old designer is a well known animal rights campaigner who refuses to use fur or leather in her own collections.

For the record, we are big fans of Alexander Wang. We love the grunge aesthetics which his torn denim and oversize blazers posses.

Can we be more impressed by the news that Wang is launching his footwear line?!

Perforated leather booties and a heel topped with fringe are aggressively sexy. Priced at $125 to $250, the shoes are definitely worth it.

The world’s famous shoe designers vacation destinations

Author: admin  //  Category: Designers

They work hard and design the worlds best shoes, and it’s normal to escape somewhere. They have a rest,  find inspirations, and come up with new ideas.

PIERRE HARDY
Milos, Greece

“I love to go to where there’s sea, sun, calm and beauty. It could be any island in the Mediterranean, like Capri or Corsica. But my dream location is the Greek Islands. It has to be somewhere you can live barefoot…like a kind of lost paradise!”

EMMA HOPE
Cornwall, England

“I recently moved here to a house by the sea that’s above a surfing beach on the North Devon/Cornwall border. I like exploring this place, walking down paths I’ve never traveled before, climbing over rocks, surfing at low tide and finding different ways up the cliff from the beach. I ride green lanes on my horse, Flash, because they are too rutted for a car.”

BRUNO FRISONI
Tangiers, Morocco

“When you land here it’s like going back in time. The city is so inspiring and cosmopolitan, and I love walking in the streets, feeling this unique climate—a mix of the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea. My favorite spots are La Plage Des Moineaux, the incredible Kasbah and, for its charm, the Hotel Nord-Pinus in the city.”

OLIVIA MORRIS
Bali, Indonesia

“I’ve traveled a long way from London, but I knew Bali was the right place to wind down after a hectic season. I’ve visited Seminyak, a mix of traditional and modern, with some great little chic boutiques and fabulous restaurants. And I’m obsessed with traditional Hindu temple umbrellas, especially the checkered black ones.”
