Naomi Campbell: from supermodel and designer to Bollywood star

Author: admin  //  Category: Fashion News, Models

Singing supermodels don’t surprise us (Carla Bruni for example), but supermodels singing in Hindi is definitely something new.

Naomi Campbell took a break from her career as a designer and recorded a duet for  a new animated feature with Indian movie star Akshay Kumar, who previously had starred in blockbusters alongside the likes of Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards. Naomi will also star in a companion video to the feature.

Campbell is no stranger to the world of the big screen. She made her movie debut in 1991 when she appeared as a singer in Cool As Ice, and went on to star alongside the likes of Antonio Banderas, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jackie Chan and Whoopi Goldberg in various other productions. Her 1995 album Babywoman, however, received less-than-glowing reviews.

‘The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion’ is the main theme of an upcoming Costume Institute Gala. Fashion’s most glamorous night will be hosted by Kate Moss, teaming up with Justin Timberlake, Marc Jacobs and Anna Wintour.

Exploring the relationship between fashion and beauty, the exhibition will focus on the iconic models of the 20th century, including Naomi Campbell, Gisele, Jerry Hall, Cindy Crawford, and of course, Moss herself.

Speaking to WWD, Jacobs explained the concept: ‘The idea of muses or models, whether it is someone you know or someone you have seen in an image, someone of your imagination or a creature of your own invention, is important to every designer and every collection,’ he explained.

Every year, the Costume Institute Gala attracts A-listers and fashion faces, with this year’s red carpet embracing the likes of the Beckhams, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Bosworth, Katie Holmes and Beyoncé.

Photographer Nick Knight talks about discrimination against black models

Author: admin  //  Category: Fashion News, Models

Photographer Nick Knight unveiled his latest fashion-political film about racism in fashion. Naomi Campbell dressed in a Rodarte dress and louboutins holds two automatic weapons while staring into the camera.

“I am virtually never allowed to photograph black models for the magazines, fashion houses, cosmetic brands, perfume companies, and advertising clients I work for. Whenever I ask to use a black model I am given excuses such as ‘Black models are not aspirational in some markets’ or ‘they do not reflect the brands values,’ normally, however, no reason is given,” - said Nick Knight.

We admire Nick Knight for dealing with the subject of discrimination against black models. it’s a hot topic today, and the more people who discuss it, the more impact it will have.
