Designer Stefano Pilati (left) who succeeded Tom Ford at YSL, thinks that Ford, who came to YSL right after Yves Saint Laurent’s departure, had a very precise vision of the company that didn’t challenge women.
Pilati told NY Times that:
“Tom is talented but not gifted. That’s the way he managed the business. Tom would say: ‘We can’t do this silhouette because she looks fat.’ Or, ‘Oh, no — women don’t like this fabric; we can’t use it.’ That mentality was something to learn but was so far from my way of thinking. Why do you want to be safe? I’m more like: Why don’t you wear gray flannel for an evening dress? I find that fantastic! Not Tom, never.”

There is more from Naomi Campbell’s YSL Fall 2008 advertising campaign. We are not going to discuss her pose and facial express (it’s ordinary for ad campaigns), but we are fascinated by her shoes and the bag. A definite must have - we want them.

‘I’m blessed and grateful to be working with YSL again – a house that gave me a start in my career’, she told The Mail.
It’s not her first campaign for the French brand. She was a spokesmodel for YSL in the Nineties and her last show for them was in 2002, when Yves St. Laurent, the 71-year-old designer, retired to allow others to carry on the brand.
As The Mail on Sunday reports, Naomi Campbell signed a contract rumoured to be worth £200,000.
